Fonts of Questionable Content[]

There was a post on the main page about discussion of Fonts used in the strip. Most of the characters speak in Blambot Casual, except for the AnthroPC's. I don't have any idea what those fonts may be - anyone else know? Jwhouk 05:34, January 19, 2012 (UTC)

Don't know. I have a dim, vague, memory of it being discussed on the forum, but I don't feel up to a search. Is it cold in here? 08:27, January 19, 2012 (UTC)
The font for the main characters is indeed Blambot Casual,[1] and the font for AIs is Bottix Regular.[2] --NewGalaktos (talk) 10:33, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
Though that information might be outdated – e.g. in Number 3575: Cyborg Conspiracy Theories, the word Assam looks identical when Emily and Roko say it, I think, and in Number 3576: Straight Into The Trenches the same is true for the word qualified said by Winslow and the other man. I think most AIs use the same font as humans these days? (Bubbles in 4469: Power Level still looks different, though I couldn’t say if it’s Blambot or Bottix or something else.) --NewGalaktos (talk) 14:49, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Caption Game[]

I have the list of all 67 (to the date I post this) of the Caption Game threads in the QC forums. For those unaware, user "I Dug Up Her Grave" has maintained a thread where forum members post alternate versions to panels from the main comic. For example, QC Captions Vol. 20, where we all tried to figure out what would be said as everyone watched Dora enter the party. I'm not sure if we should post this as a separate entry here, or what. Sex, Drugs, Rock 'n Roll - and QC?[]

Do we really need a subsection on this for every character? Jwhouk (talk) 14:57, October 27, 2012 (UTC)

I found that such section is not very predisposing towards writing about new comics as they come out. That's why I try to reorganize pages into "Biography/Personality/Appearance/other stuff" sections. If present, "Sex, Drugs, Rock 'n Roll" just goes as a subsection in "Personality".
Section "Biography" can be easily split into "arcs" sub-sections, like in Faye#Major events. Sometimes it's easy to also have separate sections Background/Education/Family. —andrybak (talk) 12:25, March 10, 2019 (UTC)

New Category Proposal: "Character Passion"[]

Something talked about on the forums was that various characters have various passions - and it was pointed out that even Marten had one (guitars). Is this something we could add to character entries, maybe in the infobox or in their character descriptions? Jwhouk (talk) 02:25, September 20, 2017 (UTC)

Jwhouk, I believe section "Personality > Passion" or "Personality > Hobbies" is a good place to put stuff like this. —andrybak (talk) 07:25, July 9, 2019 (UTC)

Userboxes[]

Does anybody want userboxes in this wiki? I've been thinking of making something like:

File:Hannelore 2537.png This user's favorite character is Hannelore.

The main code, of course, will go in a template, like Template:Userbox and Template:Userbox/Favorite character. And the users will be able to put it on their pages, like this:

{{Userbox/Favorite character|Hannelore}}

Possible other userboxes: "This user follows <character> on Twitter and is sad that there are no new tweets."

Anybody interested? —andrybak (talk) 21:00, August 26, 2018 (UTC)

Background images in headers[]

I've added a silly thing to Wiki's CSS. Claire in headers of user pages, and Marten and Bubbles in some of the talk pages, like this one. Do they feel out of place? Is this overkill? I thought about sprucing up CSS after seeing a collage of some characters as background over at Orville wiki, but I have nowhere near that kind of Photoshoping skill to pull something like that. Ping User:Is it cold in here?, User:Jwhouk, User:Ylimegirl for discussion. —andrybak (talk) 21:02, June 24, 2019 (UTC)

Removed CSS rule for Claire on user pages, because it was obscuring parts of the UI on the mobile version. For it to look good everywhere, we need a vertical image. —andrybak (talk) 21:59, June 24, 2019 (UTC)

QC Wiki How To[]

I've written a "How to" about editing and maintaining the Questionable Content Wiki. —andrybak (talk) 07:59, July 24, 2019 (UTC)

Navigating the wiki[]

At some point while wandering around the archive, I found a link that would show me all the articles in the wiki. Which was great: I found that Marten's Worry Hat already has a page, and a nice one at that.

The problem, is, I can't find that link, anymore, nor can I find the aforementioned Worry Hat page from within the wiki.

I am not a software person, I can write some decent prose, but I don't know how to build a wiki nor how design a page, but I think I should not have to use an external search engine to find a page inside the wiki. BTW, the Worry Hat is filed under category: The QC World, which I also do not see in any lists...

Dngrsone (talk) 10:59, December 25, 2019 (UTC)

User:Dngrsone, the page you are describing is Special:AllPages. You can get to it from Special:SpecialPages, which is linked at Community Portal, to which you can get by clicking on "Community" in the desktop site menu.
As for your particular example, in the navbox for lists (Template:Lists) there is a section "Questionable Content universe". It includes some of the pages, which are part of Category:The QC world. Perhaps, a generic list article "List of objects in QC" or something like that would help. Such a list could include Espressosaur, for example. There's already a list Technology, which unfortunately only includes a single item.
Note, that Worry hat is already linked from three articles: Marten Reed, Veronica Reed, and Hannelore Ellicott-Chatham/Guide (which needs to be integrated as into prose of proper article Hannelore Ellicott-Chatham). —andrybak (talk) 12:15, December 25, 2019 (UTC)
P.S. I've added the Special:AllPages directly to the list "Other useful special pages" at Community Portal. —andrybak (talk) 12:17, December 25, 2019 (UTC)
Created Category:Items. It's added automagically by Template:Infobox item. No need to add manually. —andrybak (talk) 19:43, December 31, 2019 (UTC)

Dina[]

Has Dina appeared anywhere other than comic 3766? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.14.30.182 17:21, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

Dina is from a different comic called Dumbing of Age. Katsube (talk) 09:17, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

Suggestion to Add Appearance to the Info Section[]

I thought something nice would be to add appearance to the info section of each character. For example hair colour, eye colour and skin tone. I know most characters have a picture, but I thought it would be neat to have it in the info section anyway, especially since some characters look quite different from when they were first introduced. Does anybody have anything against adding this? - Katsube (talk) 09:29, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

Katsube, thanks for the suggestion :-). Feel free to add such sections to character pages. We already have similar sections for some characters. For example: Marten Reed, Faye Whitaker, Bubbles, Yay Newfriend, Aurelia Augustus, Elliot, Renee, Penelope Gaines. —andrybak (talk) 15:46, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

Patreon as a source?[]

Do you think Patreon-only content can be used as a source in articles? In the recent Q&A, Jeph gave an age for Liz; this information might not come up in the comic for a while, at least not exactly, I think. --NewGalaktos (talk) 12:08, 8 March 2023 (UTC)

NewGalaktos, it would be fine. The QC wiki doesn't need perfect verifiability. You could, for example, include a quote from the Patreon post in the reference. —andrybak (talk) 22:30, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
Thanks andrybak! Though it turns out to be a moot point, since Jeph also brought up her age in 5001: It's Party Time Again ^^ --NewGalaktos (talk) 21:58, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

List of Character Appearances Per Character?[]

Does the wiki have any lists of character appearances for each character? So like, a page or a section listing every comic Roko has appeared in, for example. I know there is the Count of character appearances page that lists the total number of appearances, but I haven't been able to find a list of the actual appearances. I think having them might be nice if somebody wanted to read every comic involving a particular character, or something similar. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Raven Treye (talkcontribs) 21:30, 15 October 2024 (UTC)

Hello, Raven Treye. Welcome to the Questionable Content Wiki! There's no such page on the wiki, no. There were some users on reddit, which had spreadsheets which kept track of all appearances, but none of them are public. You can try searching there for posts. Otherwise, you can just look through the section Roko Basilisk#References, which includes the most important strips, from which you should be able to find almost all appearances for most characters. —andrybak (talk) 17:45, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
Gotcha, thanks for letting me know! I did some digging through Reddit and couldn't find the exact lists. I was thinking of making my own lists, which is why I asked if there were any on here first. Since there aren't any, would I be able to add mine once I'm done with them? My initial thought was making separate pages like how the Marvel Database does it (this is the list for Captain America), but I was also thinking that they might work as collapsible tables at the bottom of each character's page. Do you have any thoughts on this, or is there someone else I should ask? —Raven Treye (talkcontribs) 23:52, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
The idea with subpages like on the Marvel wiki sounds great! The subpages can be then transcluded on the main article page (collapsed or otherwise), or just linked. When creating the subpages, make sure to use the Template:QC to automagically generate strip titles. For example {{QC|2457}}Number 2457: Consult The Wiki. —andrybak (talk) 23:57, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
Sounds good, thank you! I'll get to work on them once my lists are done, which may be a little while. —Raven Treye (talkcontribs) 15:09, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
Almost done compiling the lists. Unless there are any objections, I'm going to leave out the Directember comics. Because they are both old comics and chosen entirely at random, they don't represent a character's presence in the story. —Raven Treye (talkcontribs) 00:03, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
Now we've got Emily Azuma's Appearances, Raven Pritchard's Appearances, and Angus McPhee's Appearances. Raven Treye, thank you for working on these. What do you think about turning them into subpages? I.e. Emily Azuma/Appearances, Raven Pritchard/Appearances, and Angus McPhee/Appearances. —andrybak (talk) 22:26, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
That should be something I can do, yeah. Just did some preliminary research, and it should have the same functionality, namely keeping the list itself off of the character page while still allowing people to search for the list directly. I also saw your comment on putting the list in the character infobox, and that's also something I can do. Hopefully the subpages will work inside the infobox. Since I'm not quite sure how subpages work yet, I'm going to try it with a new character (maybe Penelope) before moving over the ones I have. —Raven Treye (talkcontribs) 19:46, 31 January 2025 (UTC)
Added Penelope's list of appearances as a subpage. I also added an "appearances" section to the infobox, along with a description of how to use it in the documentation. You can check out Penelope's page to see how it looks. If you think this is good, I'll transfer over Emily, Raven, Yay, and Angus to subpages and start using that format for the rest of the characters. —Raven Treye (talkcontribs) 23:34, 1 February 2025 (UTC)

Great work on the appearances pages! They're very useful. I'm guessing you have a master list of every character in every strip that you use to build the Count of character appearances. Is that information by any chance available online, maybe in a google doc or something? Bobmath (talk) 15:35, 6 September 2025 (UTC)

Minor characters[]

What are people's thoughts on what to include in the List of minor characters?

  • How minor is too minor? (For example, Trashbot is a one-frame gag.) Including everyone might make the page unwieldy.
  • When does a character rate their own page? Evan and Zlata are shaping up to be regulars, but don't really have a plot arc (yet).

Bobmath (talk) 14:56, 6 September 2025 (UTC)

There are no strict guidelines. I think that Gabby and Delilah are good benchmarks – characters which appeared for one or two arcs only.
There are still some characters which don't need a separate article, but do, like Hillary Clinton's AnthroPC and Dave (and most of characters in the "Unnamed/unseen characters" section of Template:Characters). I merged some of the articles for minor characters into the list, here's an example: Special:Diff/19163 + Special:Diff/19164. —andrybak (talk) 23:44, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
